Applying for the Global Talent Visa. Stage 2: Visa Application

Applying for the Global Talent Visa. Stage 2: Visa Application

Everything you need to know about the Global Talent Visa application after you got your endorsement from Tech Nation. We're talking about documents, fees and processing times for applying inside and outside the UK.

Have you got your endorsement from Tech Nation? Now it’s time to apply for the visa.

If you missed Stage 1 of the Global Talent Visa process, read our blogpost about endorsement application, necessary documents and approximate waiting times.
You have only 3 months (90 days) after the endorsement to submit the visa application or it will expire

If you're not a UK resident

The process takes 5-8 weeks as of August 2022.

💬 Immigram notes:
“The Home Office states you’ll get the decision within 15 business days. But you’ll have to wait longer because of the current refugee situation and the UK government’s prioritising immigration cases.”

You can apply for the Global Talent Visa from anywhere in the world.

❗️Important UKVI update: new visa application policy (Stage 2)
Applications for entry clearance under the Global Talent route can be made in countries or territories where you have permission to be there for more than 6 months.

This means that when applying for GTV in visa countries, you must have a visa for a period of 6 months or more or a valid residence permit.
If your citizenship allows you to stay in a country without a visa for more than 6 months, you can also apply for GTV from there.

Necessary documents

Documents you’ll need for the application:

  • A valid passport or other document that shows your identity and nationality
  • A photo
  • A TB test result, if you’re from a country where you have to take the test. Your test must be from a clinic approved by the Home Office
💬 Immigram notes:
“You can get tested in any clinic approved by the Home Office, even if it’s not in the country of your residence. If you decide to apply from another country, check if you can get tested for tuberculosis there before you leave your country of residence. In other words, you can move to Turkey, for example, and apply there, but you’ll have to provide a TB test as part of your application, which you can’t get tested for there.”

Booking an appointment

You’ll have to book an appointment to submit your papers, biometric details and photo at one of the visa application centres:

  • TLS, if you’re in Europe
  • VFS Global, if you’re outside Europe

If you want to get the decision faster, you can apply for Priority and Super Priority services (additional fee applies). Candidates can get a decision within 5 working days (Priority) or by the end of the next working day (Super Priority).

The availability of Priority and Super Priority services will be displayed when you book your appointment at the visa application centre. You can check if the service is available at your country's TLS or VFS Global visa centres.

After your immigration case is approved, you can receive your vignette sticker at the visa centre. With this sticker, you can enter the UK within 3 months (90 days).

There are also a few things to consider

  1. If your records are not in English you’ll also need to provide a translation — signed and dated by a professional translation services agency. For example, “We, name of the agency, a professional translation services agency, hereby certify the document has been translated by an experienced and competent professional translator, name of the translator. Phone number, email, date and signature.” The documents don’t have to be apostilled or notarised.
  2. Your partner and children will need to apply separately and use your application number to travel with you or join you in the UK if they are eligible. Read in our blogpost to find out who can apply for the Dependant Visa and what documents they will need for the application.

If you're a UK resident

The process takes up to 2 weeks as of August 2022 (compared to 8 weeks stated by the Home Office). You just switch one BRP (biometric residence permit) to another.

You can submit your documents and application form online.

You can also book an appointment and provide your biometric information and photo through the website.

After the decision

Congratulations! You’ve received your Global Talent Visa! Unfortunately, the paperwork doesn’t stop here. You need to take care of a few more things — move to the UK, BRP, etc.
